OLD STUFF

For more than two millennia, believers and non-believers both challenged the notion that God works a standard nine to five and created the entirety of the universe on the day shift [and BTW – tongue in cheek/wink/wink – some say He did take His union breaks]. The creeds of faith passed to the contemporary church are united in one central point regarding creation – God created all things in His own power. God, in His act of creation, put in place governance, the laws of physics, and natural law such as the cycle of rain and natural foods otherwise referred to as ordinary providence. Furthermore, in governance, we find the physicality that rules the universe.

Just an Opinion

It seems that a separation of believers and non-believers often comes in the acceptance of God’s providence regarding the natural laws of our universe. Moreover, a literal reading in Genesis 1 regarding the days of creation often exposes a rift among believers. However, we must remember that our Lord and King, Jesus, quoted scriptures that in themselves argue for the integrity of the Word of God.

Something New

On the other hand, science espouses a universally assumed consensus regarding theTrust God age of the earth, pointing as far back as the seventeenth-century discovery of the stratification of the earth’s crust.[5] But even something as simple as stratifying layers of earth is not an exact science. Remember, stratification of materials occurs differently with each type of material, source, and environment. For example, volcanic materials may sort in flight based on the pull of gravity. At the same time, sedimentary rock may lay down layers at many different rates due to the changes in the rate of decomposition. Furthermore, water and wind sort materials differently based on the particles’ size, weight, and shape. Moreover, floods carry materials and lay them down in large quantities changing the landscape forever.

Assuming – God or No God?

It Changes the Outcome

As with most scientific discoveries, the analysis relies on many assumptions. For example, when establishing the age of rocks, the aging process includes a hypothesis regarding the stratified sediments’ age. Contemporary science begins with an assumption that God does not exist and therefore seeks a creation experience contrary to that presented in the bible. The Genesis story of Noah and the flood can be found repeated in many cultures. However, one must realize that to question Genesis and a literal reading of the scriptures regarding creation, then the remainder of the Word of God comes in to question.
